ABOUT THE CRAFT
I create ceramic pieces both wheel-thrown and hand-built. I infuse my love of nature into many of my pots using leaves, pinecones, and bark to add texture and shape. I am drawn to the colors of nature and apply them to the pieces I create. I make functional pieces for everyday use. Each piece is unique with its own particular character and shape. Making pottery has paired my appreciation of mountains, forests, and gardens with my love of art. There is something so satisfying about making a piece of art that others will hold and enjoy.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I love working with my hands and making something unique to be held, used and enjoyed by others. Working on the wheel has also helped me stay focused through multiple health issues over the years. It is there that my mind and body are one-similar to meditation. It gives me great joy to start with a simple lump of clay and turn it into something beautiful.
My small business -Field and Flower Ceramics was born out of a need to do something creative and purposeful after retiring from a long career as an elementary teacher. An opportunity to pair creating with my love of color and nature has proved to be a significant part of my life after retirement. I am also the coordinator of an inner city garden called The Friendship Garden in Albany. The garden offers hands-on opportunities in gardening, science, and art to hundreds of children every year.
